 Item
Identifier: CC-31148-32616
Scope and Contents

The authors have taken the same brief dream-like story about a man or boy named Luis and re-created it in a series of urban rhythms and structures. According to text on the order card, letters, words, sentences, and black and white elements can be the building blocks of new parks and red-light districts, apartment and office buildings, stores and industrial centers, new city fringes and suburbs - a journey through typographical inner, intemediate and outer spaces. Although this book is designed in an exemplary manner, I did not find that their premise was supported by the images. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

Identifier: CC-42076-44077
Scope and Contents On his WEB site, Stenhouse writes, "Working in a Glasgow Architect's Practice made architectural modernism my initial visual language, however I became disillusioned by the architectural profession and subsequently concentrated on fine art, eventually graduating in drawing and painting. What I saw as the passivity of painting (particularly illusionist painting) led me to explore the tangibility of painting, this developed into structuralist work and eventually into 3-dimensions. I began making sculpture which was 3-dimensional colour compositions, these moved into the concept of sculpture as non-functional architecture. At this time most of my work was concept driven and formalist, however some work was produced which had autobiographical and sociological references. The woven pages are made with paper cut from another magazine; the ink added pages are horizontal straight black lines, 12 to a page. One of the images in this book deals with Carlo Mollino (May 6, 1905 - August 27, 1973) who was an Italian architect and designer. He was once credited as saying, "Everything is permissible as long as it is fantastic." That credo was certainly reflected throughout his body of work. Mollino's architecture and furniture are famous for their ability to enable occupants to manipulate volumes at a whim. Further, he was known for taking erotic photographs. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
